Harvey Hamlow was a member of Delta Fly Fishers for more than 30 years. Harvey was an amazingly skilled angler and a person of kindness and warmth. Harvey was fondly remembered at the One Fly Contest this last Saturday by so many club members. Member after member shared that when it was their first time fishing with the club it was Harvey that took them under his wing. He would help them get ready, make fly suggestions and guide them on the water with techniques and tips. Harvey was this positive and supportive off the water too. He greeted everyone at every meeting with a kind word and ready smile. His positive presence, sharing of skill and knowledge and love of fly fishing were the epitome of Delta Fly Fishers' stated mission. Harvey was a true gentleman and he will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
It was Harvey's wish that those who wanted to honor his memory support the Delta Fly Fishers in some of its many endeavors. In discussing how best to commemorate Harvey with both his family and our current president, it was decided that those who wished could contribute to the club's educational activities, especially Salmon in the Classroom and Send a Kid Fishing. Salmon in the Classroom is a K-12 program where students hatch salmon from eggs in a classroom setting, and in doing so, learn about the life cycle of the salmon and the need for clean water in our rivers and streams. The Send a Kid Fishing program pairs an eager student and parent with a professional guide for a half day's fishing.
Those wishing to contribute can do so online by credit card by using the following links.

We miss you Harvey and we will do everything we can to continue to make you proud!
After Jean and I joined the Delta Fly Fishers, Harvey made an immediately impression on us. Harvey was an expert stillwater fisher of few words. We regularly saw him fly fishing the annual Lake Davis outing, One Fly Contest in White Pines, and frequently at the fall Bridgeport outing. Harvey was kind enough to let us shadow him and learn some of basic techniques of fishing lake and reservoirs. Harvey was a fishing machine, and we quickly learn by watching him and listening to a few of his golden pieces of advice. Later, we annually fished together at Lake Davis as he loved spending up to one month each spring and fall at this reservoir. His bright smile and genuine laugh made it a true pleasure to be in his company. When we camped in the same RV grounds, I always marveled that he routinely left to go fishing before dawn and when most of his club members were still in bed. When we hosted our first Eastern NV fishing outing, we were touched that he chose to accompany us and join our daily fishing outings despite that Harvey was a far more experienced fly fisher than us. We will deeply miss his presence and appreciated the time that we shared together.
